MAYDAY Dortmund 2027: The Mother of All Raves Returns
MAYDAY Dortmund returns to the legendary Westfalenhallen for another monumental night of electronic music, collective energy and spectacular production. Widely celebrated as the “Mother of All Raves”, MAYDAY remains one of Europe’s most influential indoor dance events, bringing thousands of ravers together beneath a storm of lasers, lights and thunderous bass.
The story began in Berlin in 1991, when approximately 5,000 people gathered for a rave created in support of the former East German radio station DT64. What started as a cultural campaign quickly became a movement, helping to shape Germany’s emerging techno identity and introducing generations of fans to the power of large-scale electronic events. MAYDAY later established its spiritual home in Dortmund, where it continues to honour its famous message: “You make my day.”
The official 2027 line-up has yet to be announced. The previous edition featured artists including Klangkuenstler, I Hate Models, Lilly Palmer, Paul Elstak, Schrotthagen and MAYDAY veteran Speedy J, reflecting a programme that connected rave pioneers with artists defining the modern underground. Visitors can expect the new line-up to explore techno, hard techno, hardcore, raw techno, bounce and other high-impact electronic styles, with further announcements still to come.
MAYDAY’s multi-floor format allows each part of the Westfalenhallen to develop its own identity. One arena may erupt with relentless industrial rhythms while another moves through classic techno, euphoric rave sounds or harder styles. Precision sound systems, monumental LED structures, pyrotechnics and immersive lighting transform the venue into an enormous indoor club that remains alive until morning.
Food counters, bars, merchandise areas and quieter meeting points are available throughout the complex. The event does not provide camping, but Dortmund offers numerous hotels, hostels and apartments close to the venue and city centre.
Westfalenhallen is easily reached from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof by underground and regional transport. Festival tickets include access to a complimentary VRR public transport ticket, making travel across the surrounding region considerably easier. Entry is restricted to visitors aged 16 and over, and valid identification is required.
With its historic legacy, uncompromising sound and fiercely loyal community, MAYDAY Dortmund 2027 promises another powerful journey through the past, present and future of rave culture.
