Bloodstock Open Air 2027: Britain’s Ultimate Independent Metal Festival

Bloodstock Open Air 2027 returns to Catton Park, Derbyshire, for four uncompromising days of heavy music, fierce performances and unmistakable metal community spirit. Recognised as the United Kingdom’s largest independent metal festival, Bloodstock delivers everything from traditional heavy metal and doom to hardcore, death metal, metalcore and the most extreme corners of the underground.

Bloodstock’s story began as an indoor gathering in 2001 before expanding into an open-air festival in 2005. Its independent, family-run character has remained central to its identity throughout that evolution. Rather than chasing passing trends, the festival has built a fiercely loyal following by celebrating the full breadth of metal culture and creating a welcoming place where artists and fans share the same passion.

The first 2027 announcement is already packed with major names. Mercyful Fate, Electric Callboy and Motionless In White will headline the Ronnie James Dio Stage, bringing three dramatically different visions of modern metal to Catton Park. Motionless In White’s appearance will be their only United Kingdom show of the year and their first European festival headline performance.

Acid Bath, Green Lung and Children of Bodom have also secured prominent main-stage positions. Further confirmed acts include Imminence, DevilDriver, Wind Rose, Corrosion of Conformity, Sylosis, HammerFall, Hypocrisy, Decapitated, The Halo Effect, Humanity’s Last Breath, Gutalax, Conan and Tortured Demon. The Sophie Lancaster Stage will be headlined by Madball, Gaerea, Kanonenfieber and Dethklok, with Pig Destroyer, Fulci and Dool among the additional names announced.

The New Blood Stage remains essential to the festival’s grassroots mission. Winners of the nationwide Metal 2 the Masses programme earn opportunities to perform at Bloodstock, giving emerging bands valuable exposure to one of the country’s most dedicated metal audiences.

Beyond the stages, visitors can explore specialist merchandise stalls, alternative markets, food traders, bars and late-night entertainment. Weekend tickets include standard camping, while campervan pitches, pre-pitched tents, VIP options and accessible facilities provide alternatives for different budgets and requirements.

Catton Park lies between Lichfield, Burton upon Trent and Tamworth. Drivers should follow official event signage when approaching the site. Those arriving by rail can travel to Tamworth station and use the festival’s return shuttle service, which should be reserved in advance.

Bloodstock Open Air 2027 promises a colossal celebration of riffs, intensity and belonging, where metal fans gather not simply as an audience, but as one powerful community.
