Liverpool Sound City 2027: Celebrating 20 Years of New Music

Liverpool Sound City 2027 returns to the heart of Liverpool for a landmark twentieth edition, filling the city centre with live music, creative energy and the unmistakable thrill of discovering an artist before the rest of the world catches on. Across an interconnected network of theatres, clubs, bars and basement venues, audiences can move from intimate performances to commanding headline shows while experiencing one of Britain’s most celebrated musical cities.

Since arriving on the festival scene in 2008, Sound City has established itself as one of Europe’s leading independent festivals and conferences for new music. More than 3,000 emerging artists have appeared before over 400,000 fans and industry professionals during its history. Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, The 1975, Charli XCX, Florence + The Machine, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Fontaines D.C. and beabadoobee are among the artists who performed at Sound City during important stages of their careers.

The 2027 line-up has yet to be announced, but the festival’s fiercely independent approach promises another genre-spanning showcase of emerging performers, breakthrough names and established favourites. Indie, alternative rock, pop, electronic music, hip-hop, soul and experimental sounds will share the programme, reflecting Sound City’s commitment to exciting talent regardless of genre or origin.

Liverpool itself is an essential part of the experience. Rather than remaining inside a traditional festival enclosure, visitors explore the streets between performances, discovering historic music spaces, atmospheric backrooms and independent cultural venues. Each room offers a different character, from packed basement shows and secret appearances to theatrical main-stage performances.

Sound City is also more than a weekend of concerts. The accompanying Sound City+ Conference brings artists, managers, labels, promoters and music professionals together for keynote conversations, workshops, roundtables and networking sessions. Artist-development programmes and training initiatives extend that support beyond the festival, helping new voices build sustainable careers within the music industry.

Between shows, visitors can explore Liverpool’s independent restaurants, cafés, record shops and nightlife. The compact city-centre format makes travelling between venues straightforward, while Liverpool Lime Street station provides convenient rail connections from across the United Kingdom.

Liverpool Sound City 2027 promises to celebrate two decades of discovery while looking firmly towards the future — a vibrant meeting point for artists, audiences and industry innovators united by a belief in the transformative power of new music.
